In Atlanta, OUTKAST and GOODIE MOBB, in St. Louis NELLY, and many others are gaining momentum. Their popularity is no joke! These artists are putting out multi-million-selling hits one after another.
As Southern sound has become accepted nationwide in this way, and even changed the New York market, it’s not that the Southern sound suddenly “fit” New York—it’s that New York began wanting Southern music with its own distinct sense of place.
Within that trend, something that had already been playing an important role in the American South as a spot that helped establish the rap market was the strip club.
