Street Jack March 2001 **FREE**
You read that right, this issue is FREE for anyone to download in full! If you have ever been curious or interested in becoming a paid subscriber this is your sign to pull the trigger! I don’t really release full scans like this for free often but I figured I would give you guys a little taste on what you’re missing out on. If you don’t care to read my write up, the full PDF is linked right here at the top!
For my write ups I usually do a brief overview of what each issue has in store. If you tuned in to my last post you’ll know that Street Jack issues are full of classic streetwear items from Japan and the U.S. This spread is super cool to me as it shows some iconic collaboration pieces from Electric Cottage, Goodenough, and MoreAboutLess. That G95 letterman jacket has been a grail of mine for a while now but it’s become so expensive. I love the pin set that comes with it too. The Electric Cottage tactical jacket reminds me of some Acronym or Burton Analog pieces for its versatility and hidden pockets going down the sleeve and on the chest. Looks like it features some under arm ventilation and maybe includes a fleece lining as well, super unique piece.
For the first feature we have Street Jack’s “Big 4” which are Stüssy, A Bathing Ape, Nike and Gravis. Bape is running with their classic cloud camo and a crewneck with the numbers “69” printed on it. Stüssy continues on with their awesome monogram pieces, I used to have the small shoulder bag shown in the bottom but I’ve always wanted more from this collection. Nike shows of some simple running tech wear with a really cool Y2K headset. Gravis doesn’t seem to be talked about too much now even though it was a very popular brand in the street and skating scenes at this time. They definitely had some stylish clothing but the shoes are my favorite as I find them unique.
At this time in the early 2000’s, Bape was really starting to gain popularity in the western world and remains to be many people’s favorite eras in streetwear to this day. With Bapesta’s soon to be released, all over print cloud camo and Baby Milo was all the craze. Some really cool examples of the camo print pieces including the reversible windbreaker, Converse, and coach jacket. Some really cool collaborations in this collection including ones with Number (N)ine, Futura, James Lavelle, CommandZ, W-Taps, and Alife.
I brought up Gravis earlier so let’s take a deeper look as I don’t see it getting talked about nearly enough. Gravis was and still is a Japanese founded skateboarding brand that produced its own sneakers, skate decks, and clothing. The big, chunky skate shoes were super popular at this time but looking back a lot of them look dated compared to the Gravis sneakers which actually look quite contemporary and like something that could be released today. I really like assortment of colorways with my favorite silhouettes being the Century, Rival, and Deuce. All the materials look very strong and durable too which is necessary for any skate shoe as well. Gravis is still making products today and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of their older stuff like this becomes more collectible now.
Next we have some brief editorials featuring the latest clothing from X-Large and Freshjive followed by some more product shots from brands like Supreme, Bape, Stüssy, Electric Cottage, and Silas. I really wish they would include more editorial images in Street Jack but clearly it wasn’t the focus for them.
Some really cool pieces from Supreme featured here especially the “Patagonia” fleece bootleg. Instead of the usual Patagonia logo with a desert silhouette, the logo is replaced with an outline of the NYC skyline and text that reads Supreme. Both Supreme and Stüssy were doing a lot of the logo flips in this era which are always fun. I really like the soccer jersey as well which has been done in many different iterations now since this one came out. Enough of me talking, I’ll let you guys go through the whole issue yourselves and let me know what your favorite items are!
