Started by Marvin Scott Jarrett and friends Neil Feineman and David Carson in 1992, RayGun’s initial motto was “The Bible of Music & Style”. The magazine had equal parts music, fashion, and general arts, and was revolutionary in the world of graphic design and layouts.
Marvin left RayGun around 1997 and went on to help start the fashion magazine Nylon in 1999. Through running DampMagazines, I’ve posted a few RayGun editorials over time and Marvin began follow me! About two weeks ago, Marvin was in NYC for the release of his latest issue for his new magazine and we met briefly. He told me how he hardly owned any copies of his original RayGun magazine which I found shocking.
Now they don’t make it easy by any means but most of RayGun’s archive is available to view using library resources like ProQuest. Unfortunately, they don’t have RayGun issue #1 on there but I figured I would go ahead and share issue #2 with you guys. This issue features articles with R.E.M., Bikini Kill, Alice In Chains, The Sundays, and many more.
While I didn’t scan these myself I want to remind my subscribers that compiling and creating these pdf’s and full book scans takes so much time and post production. I’d love to do DampMags full time but I have other responsibilities. Thank you to everyone who has continued to support!
