HUGE Magazine October 2003!
I’m pretty sure I’ve scanned the most issues of HUGE out there right now and I still have a handful of issues to scan still. I’ll give a slightly more in depth write-up and look for all you free subscribers but definitely consider becoming a paid subscriber for full access to my archive.
As you can see on the cover, the main highlights of this issue are brand close-up’s from Undercover and NEIGHBORHOOD. Before we get into those we have a cool ‘Hi-End Style’ editorial featuring Japanese actor Ryuhei Matsuda wearing the latest clothing from Number (N)ine, Dolce & Gabbana, COMME des GARÇONS Junya Watanabe Man, Helmut Lang, Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane, and more.
Now the first time I posted this Undercover editorial, I mistakenly labelled it the wrong collection. I do my best to minimize mistakes like this from happening but of course, some things slip through to even the best of us. Regardless, here is my redemption. Undercoverism was the menswear label by Jun Takahashi for Undercover. This editorial features some stunning looks from the A/W 2003 “Paper Doll” collection and includes a handful of graphics done in collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS. Very on-brand for Jun, models pose in-front of projected images of historic revolutionary events or people such as the moon landing and Che Guevara.
Next up we have a great editorial featuring NEIGHBORHOOD’s A/W 2003 lineup featuring a number of moto and military inspired looks. Among my social circle and fans of Japanese fashion, there is a high level of respect for NEIGHBORHOOD as a brand, but in the larger conversation of fashion, the brand doesn’t seem to hold the same weight. Personally I think NEIGHBORHOOD and a few other brands in the same space like it produce really nice outerwear garments, examples which are obviously featured in this editorial.
