Chanel S/S 1993 by Karl Lagerfeld Book Scans
This one here is for the fashion girlies, the brendahashtaggers, the Lagerfeld lovers, and all of you that have stayed subscribed despite me not uploading as often amidst a move. My scanner is all up and running again so now I’ll able to get back sharing more of my personal archive with you. I’ll preface this by saying this is more of a “mook” than an actual book, but highlights both Chanel’s haute couture and RTW S/S 1993 collections by Karl Lagerfeld. I’ve also included supplemental imagery and the runway video from the collection as well giving you the most in depth look.
For S/S 1993, Lagerfeld paid homage to house’s founder, Gabrielle Chanel, creating modern twists of some of the her most iconic silhouettes. Classic black and white tweed suits with matching skirts were remixed with bright pastel colors adorned with camellia flowers, another signature icon for the brand. Lagerfeld experimented with the layering and modernizing staples of the Chanel brand. Pearls and chains embellish the pockets and hems adding another level of luxury.
Now we can’t even talk about the S/S 1993 collections without mentioning the star studded model lineup. Chanel was THE show to walk for at that time, especially in Paris. Models that walked include Claudia Schiffer, a frequent collaborator and muse for Karl, the forever stunning Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, a young Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Nadja Auermann, Yasmeen Ghauri, the list just keeps going. It’s these backstage photos of the models preparing for the show that are some of my favorites.
Lagerfeld also displayed a stunningly complimentary haute couture collection for S/S 1993 as well. Clips of the show seem to have circulated online at one point but I wasn’t able to find the full thing unfortunately. It’s distinctions like this that are super important in documenting collections like this as it can be easy to mistake as some of the RTW looks feel like haute couture. Christy Turlington wearing an eclectic mix of plaid and floral patterns is definitely my favorite look.
BONUS!!
I’m not fully sure what the circumstances are for these shows but it seems like in Paris for the S/S 1993 runways, a special event or events were held where designers showed off looks inspired by weddings and Chanel was one of the brands that participated!
As usual I’ve attached the full PDF file to this mook below for paid subscribers! For all the free subscribers I’ve compiled this set of images from the haute couture show here. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber to access tons of other books and magazines as well!
